Title: AHEC/Senior Family Medicine Rotation

Description: This rotation is designed for students to gain community-based experiences in urban and rural underserved communities with a focus on primary care.

Tennessee Primary Care Association SEARCH Program

Title:  Student/resident Experiences And Rotations in Community Health (SEARCH)

Description: Learning in a community-based practice in an underserved area offers medical, dental and mental health students and residents a chance to serve a needy community. SEARCH students gain a unique primary care training experience working with patients in underserved urban and rural areas at Community Health Centers in Tennessee.

Tennessee Primary Care Association - AHEC Rotation

Title: TPCA-AHEC Clinical Rotation

Description: The Tennessee Primary Care Association (TPCA), in partnership with the Meharry Medical College Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) program, serves as the Central AHEC contractor for the State. This training will allow students to gain exposure and hone skills necessary for practicing in a rural or urban Health Professional Shortage Area in Tennessee.

       Tennessee AHEC Mission:

To improve the supply and distribution of health care professionals with an emphasis on primary care - in urban and rural Tennessee.

        Tennessee AHEC Goals:

            • Establish productive links between academic health centers, health professionals, community-based organizations, and consumers to the benefit of the underserved and rural populations.
            • Identify local health needs and responses through community input and participation.
            • Promote health and prevent disease through culturally appropriate interventions.
            • Increase the number of underrepresented, low income and racial/ethnic minorities entering into health education programs
            • Implement inter-disciplinary,continuing education and training for health professionals.
